Semiconductor industry to be accelerated

Vietnam has declared semiconductor industry development a top priority and strategic choice.

Vietnam is also one of the 16 populous countries in the world and ranks 44th out of 133 economies in terms of innovation.

The country is home to more than 50 chip design enterprises with a workforce of over 6,000 engineers; seven testing and packaging factories with around 6,000 engineers and more than 10,000 technicians,  the PM said.

In addition, there have been 174 FDI projects in semiconductor sector with total registered capital of approximately $11.6 billion. 

Vietnam possesses significant advantages including abundant rare earth reserves and a favorable geographic location.

The nation boasts a growing semiconductor sector with numerous chip design firms, testing and packaging factories, and FDI projects. Vietnam plans to implement breakthrough policies, establish a support fund, and introduce new laws to attract investment. Significant infrastructure development includes the National Innovation Center and high-tech parks. Domestic tech companies and promising startups are actively contributing to the industry’s growth. International cooperation is being strengthened through MOUs and active engagement with global tech giants.

PM Chinh requested ministries, agencies and localities to step up the implementation of the Program on human resource development for semiconductor industry through 2030, orientations to 2050 and the Strategy for semiconductor industry development until 2030.

Vietnam is actively seeking partnerships with leading semiconductor countries to further bolster its industry.`
